Why do people keep trying to convince people that the Democrats of old are the Democrats of today. President Ronald Reagan has a famous quote where he says, "I didn't leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left me.". he was referring to the flip flopping of the parties. The Democrats of old were known as Dixiecrats (Southern Democrats) which are today's Southern Republicans. Republicans were actually great supporters of the blacks who lived in the South…..in the 1860s (a century and a half ago). Then, in the 1960s when two democratic presidents (Kennedy and Johnson) actually succeeded in giving black people civil and voting rights the entire Democratic Party in the South (old Confederate States) was so mad that they left the party and started voting republican. Richard Nixon (a republican) won specifically in 1968 because of his “southern strategy “ which was primarily an appeal to racists in the South. Since the 1960s, the old confederate states have been strictly republican led and have done everything in their power to disenfranchise black people from the voting and civil rights that Democrats gave them in the 1960s.

Someone really needs to go back to history 101! What is currently the Democratic Party WAS the Republican Party in the 1800’s & early 1900’s. Then things shifted and the current Democratic Party was the OLD Republican Party and the OLD Democratic Party became the new Republican Party. The current Republican Party has shifted even more when they added the Tea Party and this MAGA Party into the mix. I guess people were not paying attention in class. Maybe that’s why history keeps repeating itself with the stupidity of what’s happening and our legislature!
