A good little ass whoopin' would do miracles!! They look for your instruction & ignore that fact while they are "testing" you!! I could have never used gentle parenting while mine were young. They'd have took over my home & embarrassed the hell out of me at the same time. So, no. I be damned if I ever let my children look so "different" from all the ones that actually knew how to act. I believe that's our punishment for not pushing punishments when necessary. Am I wrong?
