I use the 1,2,3 magic trick with my granddaughter. I start 1 as a warning, 2 as 2nd warning and 3 is timeout. Then I say criss cross applesauce hands on your lap. Take 10 deep breaths to calm down. She's 7 and has ADHD. We worked up to the criss cross applesauce thing which really works. We do deep breathing exercises to calm down from a tantrum.
