The idea is ok. But, should have put wood glue in the crack before doing this. Then, if I need it to fit into an area it won't now because of the nails and wire. If not pulling them back out after the glue dries.

well fist its not a 2×4 its a 2×8 and second with the nails and wire, hope you dont need the ends to be flush!! and why not just get a new board?? if your that hard up you rig it inplace of doing it correctly, I dam sure dont want to be around anything you build, much less let you build something for me!!

before you brought the crack together why didn't you put some glue in there to make sure it didn't come back apart once the wire broke because the wire is going to rust so you need to put some glue in between the crack before you sealed the you know use some common sense repair the crack properly put glue in it put a clamp on it clamp it and wants to glue is dry you can take the clamp off and you don't have to put the nails in the end of the wood if you don't have a clamp it's fine to use the wire and the nails but put some glue in the crack so we can take the wiring and Nails out on the end and then you don't have to worry about it because the glue would make the crack stay together

I would have dropped Carpenters glue down the crack line but it's soak in just for a few moments then put it together with a pair of clamps and call it a day. this was a lot of wasted work and it really won't help that crack.
