I'm fairly sure that's a BB, and not buckshot as some are saying. buckshot would have killed the bird.
It might be a BB but it looks a little big and like lead. My grandson has BB guns that shoot .177, so if it is a BB it has to be a .22 caliber BB. And yes even a stray "shot" from buckshot most likely would have dismantled the poor thing's beak and made it not alive, maybe not at first but with no beak, it can't eat. No matter, NO ONE should be shooting at it!!! Kinda fucked up!!
