I can totally relate to his story. I was on the 5th MEB attached to the LPD USS Vancouver in heading to the Persian Gulf in 1990 for a beach invasion with the United States marine and the United States navy. There was a shortage of weapons but plenty of ammunition. I wrote a letter to my parents about the situation. My father went to a gun store Glendale Arizona and explained my situation. The owner of the shop send me a brand new Glock 19 in pieces in separate boxes. He did this for free at his cost to the USS Vancouver. I had to do is come back to visit his store. It still brings tears to my eyes today of his kindness. I returned the rusted full of sand gun years later when I returned to the United States where that Glock still is displayed in his store.
