yeah only works from a specific angle. you pretty much have to be standing at a 45⁰ angle from it. if you look at it from the left side or head on the front the illusion disappears

With all that work hopefully you took the time to sand off the clear coat and scuff the wood and smooth if needed. If the wood has a clear coat on it and you paint over it the paint will gum up and peel back up.
