How cool is THAT?
Back in the 50s my folks got me and my brothers a HO train layout for Christmas. My dad put it on a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood the next day thing we knew my dad expanded it to two sheets of plywood, and before we knew it he built the largest privately owned HO model railroad in the United States at that time. He then told us not to play with it unless he was home. Our basement was full of train and layout. I guess he had a childhood dream of playing with trains. I really had a great time with him and the trains over the years.

My dad went to somebody’s house with us to get a toy train and it turned out. It was a Lionel train that you put a pill in the smoke stack and it was very heavy duty compared to modern trains. Oh, and we also got a puppy in the bargain. Best Christmas ever.

I was doing a service call at a house and the guy had trains running all over it and outside lights outside they ran from outside to inside and tunnels everywhere it was like a city trains everywhere
I have heard of these, but had never seen one. They are awesome. A friend of mine had a Lionel train set that had the pill you were talking about to put in the smoke stack. It had different cars, logging, tank cars, car hauler, box cars, hoppers, flatcar,flat car, and a caboose. Maybe more, I don't remember for sure.
I used to have a 4x8 plywood sheet on saw horses upon which my dad and I built a nice train track with a few sidings and operational sections... matched with cars that delivered milk cans, loaded bales, logs, etc. HO size. plenty of room. so realistic! In low light and moving at relatively accurate speeds, the locomotive looked real.

I went to a model R R show some years ago and they had one HO layout. the engines were pulling 120 cars ! So cool! I didn't think there was anyway to get 120 cars on an HO scale train! it did have a couple engines though!
I remember as a kid waiting by the tracks for the snow removal train to come by and cover us in snow.... as a kid it was hilarious to us.... as an adult, fuck that, I don't like the cold....

That is so cool. My grandfather had his trains in a spare bedroom. He made a whole town out of cardboard boxes. It was amazing. Thank you for sharing and reminding me of a wonderful time.

Trains are always fun , there's a model train museum in mpls with setups that run from one end of the bldg to the other , place is always full of mainly kids of all ages ,

Wow, that is awesome. My cousin has his whole basement set up 12 4’ x 8’ sheets of plywood. He got every different type of engine. You could imagine it trains as long as 100 cars in his basement.
