If you are really inclined to find out if they served, or they didn't, the first thing you should ask them is what was their MOS ( military occupational standing). I served in the Marines 50 years ago and they might have changed MOS to something else, but asking a similar question will either get at immediate answer or a lot of stammering and hesitating going on. Every service member has a MOS. I can't tell you how many guys couldn't tell me their MOS even just a few years after I was discharged...... Honorably.....😉

I just ask what unit they were with. I've had people tell me army units while. claiming to be Marines. it's so obvious it's laughable. If they say they don't remember the unit they were with...you NEVER forget the unit you were in in combat.
If it’s fake it’s a crime. Stolen valor and masquerading as current or former military is a crime and is theoretically worthy of a visit by military police.
And a naval pilot so did they send a seal to pilot training or a pilot to seal training?

I enlisted in Air Force in august of 1969 I didn’t have to wear my dress blues to travel just show my ID. In tech school we had a guy go downtown and buy a chest full of ribbons it was great when our DOD caught him
