For everyone that says addiction is not a disease, I use to think like that too but once you have a family member suffering from addiction then you will change your mind. Addiction changes the brain receptors and to try and control that while addicted is hard. You have to understand how drugs and alcohol affect the brain and body, just like any other disease, to fully understand the complexity it is to stop doing drugs or drinking. Addicts like how it makes them feel but all it does is mask the underlying issue.

There’s a difference between compassion and enabling chaos. When someone is severely mentally ill, addicted, and a danger, intervention isn’t cruelty—it’s responsibility. Letting people deteriorate on sidewalks is not humane, and the current approach is failing both them and the public.

And yet when President Trump starts ordering that the drug cartel boats bringing millions of dollars of drugs to our streets be stopped by blowing them up, people are outraged. Always a double standard.

We need to just let some of these drug addicts kill themselves with their stupidity. Enough giving them chance after chance to get themselves together. Accept it already that most of them are a lost cause!

If you remove the drug or alcohol it’s not poof, they’re cured. They have the desire for the drug/drink because the body feels the need for it! Have you noticed when a drinker doesn’t drink for a week they crave and eat sweets? 🍭 The sugar, the body remembers the sugar (from the drink), have you quit smoking and around day 21 you smell the smoke, you crave the nicotine, you’re not used to having that coffee without that square? Because the brains’ receptors are rewired while in active addiction, the chance of relapse is always there!

If drugs don’t kill people, the food will. Many don’t want to face withdrawal or fear of unsteady change so they just keep doing it to make themselves feel relief. many of them already know that their addicts and this is their way of life and that most people will just leave them alone. Many of them are also so depressed inside that they don’t care anymore What happens. I feel like they should have more places in humble environments for people to detox. When you detox with Medical Drs or personnel, sometimes there’s a lot of requirements and BS that goes along with it. It should be without questions asked or being shamed if they relapse. Many needed emotional connection involving therapy and support or someone they trust. A lot of programs out there don’t understand how it feels and it’s just a job role they can fill. I wish there are more sober people that will become advocates so they can relate.

It all starts with people wanting to change the way they feel. That said, we need to have children learning, in school, what feelings are and what to do about them. People go around not having a clue about what's going on in their head, heart, or body. They're feeling bad so they drink or use drugs. Then it becomes a vicious cycle. Shame from how they acted or how they treated their body badly only compounds the original bad feelings, along with how they feel when they come off their high. But this only applies to people with a conscience and an ounce of compassion. Still I believe we need to educate people, early in life, about how to manage their feelings.

I doubt any one of you is qualified to make such a diagnosis. Even those of you"qualified" still are probably miseducated. 😲 The first place you need to start is with a nutrition panel. Find out if he is dealing with either a nutrient deficiency (or overdose) that is causing his system to react in a disregulated way. Then look for physical issues. some free advice for the day is don't judge lest you be judged.

Democrat Crime Cartel needs dumb people, illegal immigrants, poor drug and alcohol addicts and as many people as possible to feel like sub human second class citizens to need the democrat handouts. That's how democrat crime machine keeps power and our tax money.

Have we not come anywhere closer to creating care centers with educated and compassionate addiction counselors and doctors to treat those addicted to drugs and alcohol? Why send LCSW’s to work the streets when there could enough people to treat in care / rehab facilities?

That is because of the people "we" vote into office! There are not enough mental health institutions because "we" voted in the wrong people. Also, "we" pay for it with our taxes. I had never met a homeless person till I moved to CA in 1987, now everyone's homeless. Sad state of affairs we are in...

It really depends on how much damage has been done to the brain and body organs how long they will live. Many addicts don't want the help because it's harder to stay sober then it is to drug day to day. Hardest part is watching what is does to the loved ones. I put my ex husband thru 6 rehabs, I finally said enough is enough for me, got divorced. He died 3 years later from a slip he never came back from, one week after his 47th birthday.

President JFK’s brother Robert was Attorney General during that administration. It was Robert Kennedy that was responsible for the closure of all government funded facilities that had been established to assist mentally ill patients. It was not a perfect system, and needed some revamping. RFK frequently stated in his opinion everyone has the right to make their own decisions, care for themselves, and all facilities assisting the mentally L were defunded and closed. I agree that mental illness needs to be addressed and assistance and care given for these people. Fact is they are not able to make their own decisions. It is a very sad situation.🙏🏼
