Do what you do at nite ,they dont fly at nite. I had a big nest of yellow jackets in the seat of an old chair that had a horse hair caution. I covered it with a tarp at nite and put two insecticide bombs under it then uncovered it the next day ,all were dead. At nite they dont get away.

WD40 works really well on yellow jackets. They drop like raindrops. Those that do fly, fly lower and lower till they hit the ground. They don’t get up. Returning wasps won’t land on a nest that has been spray with WD40, they go away and don’t try to rebuild.
Had a baby swing outside. It was totally covered in what was a black hornets nest, about 2 feet long. Company came out and took one look and said $500.00 to remove it. He'll no! Son- in- law was a fire fighter. He put on a hazmat suit and put the whole swing in a bag. Got sting 3 times. Said it hurt like hell, but not as bad as shelling out $500.00 bucks!
