love the idiots who have no idea how to, or when to use a Jake break... its a tool people, if you dont know how to use it, ofcoarse you'd say he shouldn't have use it. That's a trucker there, not a steering wheel holder. he handled that like a seasoned pro.

Keeping it straight, grabbing gears and trailer brake at same time is a pretty busy bit of business right there. Well done

Trucker did a great recovery, but kudos to the other drivers with sense enough to get out of the way. They all worked together to prevent a disaster.

Skill that’s great, but experience, wisdom and foresight would make this better. The problem is getting into this situation to start with! could be avoided in most cases by going slower and being more aware.

Pure luck!! any one with skills WOULD NOT be using a Jake brake on ice. The trailer will push the tractor and cause the jackknife. if anything at all you use the monkey tail very gently so as not to lock up the trailer tires. pure luck!

avator
Darryl Thompson

that was luck. what the hell is he doing hitting his Jakes, that's the perfect way to jackknife that truck because you're not breaking the trailer at all you're only breaking the drive axles on the truck which is going to want that trailer to push the thing down the hill jackknifing it. I think the only thing that saved him was that trailer was probably empty. and I'm saying that after 25 years of Long Haul truck Driving Experience, and have never wrecked or had an accident in the ice snow or rain. I've seen some pretty horrific ones though. he was going too fast entering that decline in the road anyway. but after doing so you steer out of it keeping with slight pressure on the trailer brakes first and then gradually start hitting the brake pedal slowly, but always keeping pressure on the trailer brakes until you come off the grade. he's just fortunate there wasn't more traffic.

For all the comments saying you don't use a Jake on Ice...I think he proved you wrong in this case and the negative comments about drivers in front of him not getting over...that's just the opposite of what I saw...the immediate taking to social media and sending a negative comment of another person's action culture has got to stop...maybe the road way was not icy until that point and that's why Law Enforcement was sitting there warning drivers...happens everywhere in the World...please let's stop with being negative towards our Brothers and Sisters...find something positive to comment about.

I have to say that I did that once with the dump truck when I was on snow and ice patrol. My God, I was sideways and everything else, but I pulled it out of there without hitting a car that was coming toward me almost hitting an abutment on a bridge but once the last car passed me, I gassed it hard and put it back on the road….. oh yeah I had some close calls, but I know that I was one of the best drivers we had…

No not real , fake news none of the above ! The Jake break is good and it work just fine it was not meat for that coming off a down hill in a wet condition , in real life the min you use that Jake break the trailer will swing around and kill you . It’s an uncontrollable once you use a jailbreak you lose control of the truck trailer goes one way take a break with keep the chug going in the direction it is, but you have no control of that trailer. Thank you you have a blessed day. Great conversation.
