I found a Cicada in my boot once. Every time I would shake it, it would make noise. When I finally shook it 4 or 3 times, I peered inside, and it flew out and hit me in the forehead!

She’s lucky that wasn’t a scorpion! When shoes are left outside, always shake them out to make sure nothing has crawled inside.

when I was a kid and we would go to my grandpa's dilapidated house in corpus, id always look for scorpions cu, the yard and house was covered in green stickers and poisonous creatures. it was pretty scary to even go to sleep. but a memory I lived through. and would only want to relive if the house was cleaned up. at least if the scorpions and thorns.

When I first moved to Hawaii in 1972, I had never seen a cockroach before. They have very big ones here besides the small ones. But here most people take their shoes off before goin into the house. So I left my shoes outside the door & when we got ready to leave I put my feet back inside my shoes. To my disbelief I felt something inside one of my shoes so I took it off & out crawled a big cockroach. Which horrified me. Now I shake & hit my shoes on the floor before putting them on.

I always check my closed-in shoes before putting them on - inside and outside. you can't be too careful. I was raised in AZ and learned it there, and still do it even after living on the East coast for 40 years. All I ever shook out were pebbles, but I still do it.😯
