the only reason the old testament mentioned giants, is because after the fall of Rome when most information was lost and skilled people died out, society as they knew it on this side of the world experienced (what to them) was an apocalypse. it threw Europe almost back to the stone age and as a result all the ancient ruins and monuments left behind BY THE ROMANS were seen as impossible to have been built by man(just cuz they weren't smart enough to figure it out again yet) and their only explanation for this was "GIANTS ONCE LIVED HERE!"....
