I thought his personality was excellent but his policies were absurd. I love how he wanted to charge people that couldn't afford medical insurance $675 fine if they didn't have medical insurance. The fine was a tax penalty, not a direct fine from Obama. The penalty, officially called the "individual shared responsibility payment," was collected by the IRS and enforced through the tax system. The penalty was not a single flat fine. For the last year it was in effect, 2018, the penalty for an uninsured adult was $695, but it could also be calculated as 2.5% of household income above the tax filing threshold, whichever was greater. Penalties were capped at the national average cost of a Bronze-level health plan.
