What a stupid thing to do. Snipping off the head of the nail is defeating the whole purpose of the nail. Just a small amount of pressure on the board and that joint will come apart. All you have to do is countersink the head of the nail and fill it with caulk. Same result, stronger joint.
That will literally pull apart in one tug
The right way to do it is to counter sink, screws and then plug it with some wood /glue🤦
