It’s really sad how many comments I had to reply to just now. The amount of people that actually legitimately think it’s OK to pass a bus with its lights on is insane. What’s also insane is how they think that in their state it’s OK, but then I go and look up their state law and it says the exact same thing as every other state law. That’s probably because it’s not a state law and states don’t get to decide that. It’s a federal law. Which means it applies to every state in this land. It doesn’t change from state to state. There may be very minor details that they can change around, but the basis is still the same. No matter where you are in the country, if you’re traveling the same direction as the bus, no matter how many lanes there are, you’re required to stop. The only exception is if you’re going the opposite direction and there is a physical barrier between the two directions of travel, in which case you aren’t required to stop.
All in a days work! Just like a mom to make it look so easy. 😆
The bus can stop the lane beside it. Thats it! Not two lanes over. The reason they stop traffic is so that kids can cross the street safely. No kids are crossing 4 lanes of traffic let alone 8 lanes!

on multi lane highway the stop for bus is not needed nor fair the ones on the other side didn't stop and that where its wrong to require them to stop . on the same side as the bus have at it .
highway, side street, main Street, City road, dirt road.... doesn't matter! who doesn't know that you stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and a big stop sign that folds out the side where traffic can see it? it's on your driver's license test. then again, a lot of people that come from other countries drive without knowing the law.... because they don't have our driver's licenses!
THIS IS WHY ROAD TESTS SHOULD BE DONE YEARLY. because 90% of people would lose their license... though doing the driver's test recently. it was a fuking joke.

what ever happened to telling your child look both ways? people that depend on others following the law are just asking for disappointment. be smart. teach look both ways. federally protected or not.

I thought the law was on a four-lane highway and two directions you don't have to stop for the bus because there is no one going to cross the street the bus have to pick up kids on the same side of the road it's a four-lane highway
In Iowa the School bus driver would get the ticket. Multie lane road, bus must stop at pedestrian cross walk. was none here. Bus may not discharge students on right side of roadway that require them to cross over multiple lanes of traffic. unless there are traffic control devices. In Iowa those vehicles were doing nothing illegal.

The state of Oregon is restarted first off it’s a 8 lane road by law no kids will ever cross that road second off the bus is in turn lane just because it’s letting kids off on a highway cars don’t need to stop that cause a accident I hope people sued that city an lady for what they did know the law when on a two lane road or 3 lane road every one must stop anything over four lane other side goes the bus side stops people are so stupid

for as long as I can remember, any lane on the same side of a stopped school bus stops, across a median or barrier headed in the opposite direction doesn't have too...two lane road, opposing directions I have to stop,..have to look up multiple lanes opposing with no median or barrier ..
to be fair, those kids are not about to cross a divided highway. they're staying on that one side
