It’s really sad how many comments I had to reply to just now. The amount of people that actually legitimately think it’s OK to pass a bus with its lights on is insane. What’s also insane is how they think that in their state it’s OK, but then I go and look up their state law and it says the exact same thing as every other state law. That’s probably because it’s not a state law and states don’t get to decide that. It’s a federal law. Which means it applies to every state in this land. It doesn’t change from state to state. There may be very minor details that they can change around, but the basis is still the same. No matter where you are in the country, if you’re traveling the same direction as the bus, no matter how many lanes there are, you’re required to stop. The only exception is if you’re going the opposite direction and there is a physical barrier between the two directions of travel, in which case you aren’t required to stop.
All in a days work! Just like a mom to make it look so easy. 😆
The bus can stop the lane beside it. Thats it! Not two lanes over. The reason they stop traffic is so that kids can cross the street safely. No kids are crossing 4 lanes of traffic let alone 8 lanes!

Driver education needs to be taught in school again, I drive home at night and the amount of ignorant people out there that won't dim their lights is huge.

people must have forgotten what we learned in drivers Ed. if a bus is stopped with its lights on and signs out all traffic behind the bus and on coming traffic must stop. that includes everyone behind them on that 2 or 3 lane road that he is on. that fine needs to be larger. you could kill a kid going around a school bus like that.

Don’t worry there is cameras on the bus now so they record your car driving by and snap photos of your car and plates and send you a $250 ticket in the mail.
Cars in other lanes are no required to stop unless the stop sign that all buses have and ik all buses have them bc it’s illegal for them not too and they cannot be used if they don’t have it bc they wouldn’t be service vehicles

It doesn’t matter if they need to cross or not.. in every single state in the U.S you are required to stop no matter how many lanes including oncoming ( unless a median is dividing you) are required to stop and treat it as a red light.. anyone who says it’s not a law in your state.
