You can now pay in store on the Walmart app. I will no longer have a paper receipt. I’ll just smile, nod, and keep walking.
If you actually purchase something one day and return to the store to return it the next day you should have a damned receipt. He was pretty much telling them he stole it by saying he walked past the cashiers to leave. Don't be a smart ass to police officers who are doing their job. Give straight honest answers if you have nothing to hide. I think the officer handled the situation professionally.
Once I pay for it, it is my property. It's no longer the store's merchandise. The fourth amendment protects me against unlawful searches. I don't need to show you a receipt. If the store says I stole something, they need to prove what it is I stole. The burden is not on me. So, don't ask me any questions. Don't ask me for a receipt.

with scan and go paying on the app they need to check that. I have a receipt on my phone so I could show them. I don't understand why people don't want to show a receipt to the person at the door. I always have my receipt ready. my daughter and I do our shopping together so we both have our receipts ready and let the door checker know there are 2 orders. it takes less then a minute for them to check then we are on our way the time it takes for them to check the receipt isn't a big deal. I know some people feel that using self check out and having to show the receipt is a big problem you have choice to go to a self check out or to the cashier. if you choose to use self checkout that's your choice. I still have to show receipt weather I go through a self check out or to a cashier.

Here is the BIGGEST MISTAKE you can make while shopping (so once in walfart you already made your 1st mistake) is checkout at a self checkout and when you swipe your item, the security tag still beeps when you leave and not opt to take a paper reciept, because when you leave (this has happened numorous times to me when buying boxes of sportscards) you beep at the exit (sometimes they stop u sometime not) and if you dont have a paper reciept, even tho you just paid for it and could easily be seen on footage from the cameras but they call the cops instead and detain you until they get there. Its EMBARASSING, your guilty til proven innocent. This has happened to me at the Racine Wi location many time, in fact so many times that when the cops get there ( because they delt with me before) they recognize me and tell me to go. Ive seen the cops tell the manager that this is BS and it needs to stop. BUT IT DONT

I bought an umbrella at the store and a couple weeks later went to the store while it was raining and used it, I paid for my things and head to the door and got stopped with them claiming I stole it wanting to see my receipt. I wasnt carrying around an old receipt for my umbrella and they got all cocky acting like they got me til they pulled up surveillance and saw me walk up with it shaking the rain off before I wrapped it up. didnt say sorry or anything just said I showed up with it and walked away from me pissed of like I had done something wrong.

I walk in a Walmart and brought something the day before walked in there and went straight to customer service while passed everybody it went straight into customer service and told him I had brought this the day before but I want to exchange it cuz I don't have the receipt anymore and they let me exchange it you should be accused of stealing anything because you walked in the store especially not by the color of your skin no you shouldn't be but we have people today that look at your color your skin and judge you by your by your cuz your skin and not by your character and that's sad today that we are still living in this mindset now we accusing people of stuff they don't have to even done.
Literally in Walmart now you have the option to not even print out a receipt not to mention look up your rights. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t be giving these answers how he stolen something. He just knows his rights and does. This is so many people. It’s not funny. I’ve had them stop me after self check out and tell me I didn’t scan things only to prove by scanned everything.
Real crime is someone stole the mouse, so back room staff can’t log in! ( hint :- go to electronics dept and grab one !).
