The federal government has reclassified marijuana as a Schedule III drug. For many years, it was listed as a Schedule I substance, grouped alongside drugs such as heroin and classified as having no accepted medical use. Moving marijuana to Schedule III is a step in the right direction. It helps the public better understand that not all drugs carry the same level of risk, and that some substances are far more toxic and dangerous than others. #homeless #addiction

A damning audit of Oregon’s drug decriminalization policy has added new fuel to an already polarizing debate. Passed in 2020 as Measure 110, the law was sold as a compassionate, data-driven alternative to criminalization. The audit, however, outlines serious flaws in how the policy was implemented—most notably the absence of clear metrics, benchmarks, and measurable outcomes.

This is the largest homeless camp in Washington State—and no, this is not Seattle. This is Olympia, Washington, which also holds the grim distinction of having the highest per capita homelessness rate in the state. A significant percentage of Olympia’s unhoused population is concentrated in this massive park. Given that reality, why hasn’t the city immediately designated the entire area as a sanctioned emergency encampment and deployed intensive wraparound services?

Donald Trump called fentanyl as a Weapon of Mass Destruction. This will save thousands of lives minimum. It is the boldest move a sitting president has ever done to curb this horrific addiction crisis.

We conducted a welfare check on a homeless man work who was in a wheelchair and appeared to be very likely “nodded out.” I asked him if he wanted to go to the new day program, The Oasis, and after a moment he agreed. I pushed him about a block and a half to The Oasis. Once inside, we stopped filming out of respect for the other participants.

The homeless mayors of Portland Oregon. Good, bad and terrifying leadership will always emerge in all walks of life. The streets are no different. https://open.substack.com/pub/truthonthestreets/p/the-homeless-mayors-of-portland?r=2cl122&utm_medium=ios please reshare to help it gain a wide audience

An unhinged, hyper-religious homeless man went on a violent rampage today, randomly punching other homeless. They retaliated and severely beat him. It was the third violent fight I witnessed today on the streets of Portland. Portland is nowhere near the city it used to be. Please check out my Substack where I write a weekly article on the reality of the streets. https://open.substack.com/pub/truthonthestreets/p/the-portland-illusion?r=2cl122&utm_medium=ios

Family estrangement is extremely common among people experiencing homelessness and is one of the deepest sources of hopelessness on the streets. When you talk to someone who is homeless, ask about their family—and offer to help them reconnect. Old wounds can heal. Even when relationships ended badly or years have passed, forgiveness often becomes possible when someone is ready to come home.

A homeless woman got something stuck in her throat and out of nowhere this young lady did the Heimlich maneuver, saving her life. 911 was called and she went to the hospital.

I’m seen an uptick in arrests for people using drugs in public. What I wish I would see is outreach workers who could get these individuals into detox and treatment to break that cycle once and for all. The police often times have their hands full and rely on social services to do that.
