I’m 21, and yeah… I drive a pickup truck. A few nights ago, I went on a date with a 56-year-old guy. I wasn’t in my work clothes—no boots, no flannel. I actually tried that night. I wore a dress, did my hair, kept the makeup light. Dinner started off normal. We talked about music, where we grew up, the usual stuff. Not built for work.” Built for work. He paid the bill, stood up, and said, “Good luck finding a man who wants that lifestyle,” then walked out just like that. I sat there for a minute staring at the table, trying to process how someone who had been chasing me for a week suddenly looked at me like I was something strange. When I got back to my truck, it was dark and I was still shaking. I went to climb in and smacked my head on the door frame—hard. I sat there rubbing my forehead, half laughing, half embarrassed, because in that moment I realized something: some men say they like hardworking women… until they meet one who actually is.
