There was once a boy who had a bone stuck in his throat that they couldn’t get out. St Blaise blessed his throat, and the bone came right out. Since then, Catholics go to mass on the feast day of St Blaise to have their throats blessed. I haven’t seen the 2 candles tied together like this before, but it’s probably easier for the priest than holding 2 separate candles at once (which used to be the way it was done.) When l was a child in the 50’s, we always went to mass on this feast day to have our throats blessed.
