The moral of the story is: Don't pay in advance for work. Any kind of work. If someone is doing construction work at your place and "they only have a half hour's worth of work to do tomorrow but they need the money to pay the guys today", DON'T PAY THEM. Nine chances out of 10, they won't be back. I learned that last one the hard way. Had to pay someone else to finish it.

It’s not being made for free, they paid. The thing I do, is I don’t cash a check for a job until the job is completed. Do the work, get the money. If you spend the money before the works done then you may feel less incentive but still obligated. Of course if you love your job making cakes, which I think would be a fun creative outlet, then the incentive is still there. If you don’t like making cakes then maybe find a job with more passion if you’re going to be cashing in before the job is complete.

To me it sounds like whoever paid for the cake ahead of time and she probably forgot to make it the day of or late that the person asked for I'm assuming.\nMaybe that's why she's making it for free now. She probably has to reimburse her, and she has to make up for it
