How about this genius. Disconnect the positive and negative terminals from the battery and hold them together for about 30 seconds. Then, reconnect and drive for about 5 miles. Definitely will hard reset most Honda's and some other manufacturers. Your way would confuse most NASA engineers.

It doesn’t. Holding the odometer button does a sweep test on the cluster. It’s a common function nowadays. A few vehicles give a status readout. It does NOT reset the ECU or clear the check engine light.
