what idiots. There are 2 types of mirrors, front-surface and back or rear-surface. Household mirrors are always rear surface, this being so the aluminizing is on the back side to protect the surface from scratches, humidity, etc. So all mirrors in your house will show this gap which is the thickness of the glass in the mirror. Normally front surface mirrors are optical mirrors like telescope mirrors but there are other uses.
