You can actually go over the 11 hours, can't remember how much over, but you will definitely have to take all or part of the next day off until you are back in compliance with your hours, I'mnotquitesure howthat rule works becausei neverhad to face it, althoughif Iwas 20 minutesfrom the terminal, Ijust continuedto drive their, but that was 5 years ago before the company had all trucks hooked up to full electronic capabilities where everything was electronically logged.

I recognize the background. She was less than 5 minutes from the yard and pulled into the median of a 4 lane road to do this. It would have been safer to just keep going.

14 hr workday, 10 hrs of drive time, 1 30 min. break inside the first 8 hrs. the truck doesn't shut down for running over your drive time, at which time you are in violation. your dispatch has some legal wiggle room on their end, because of how freaking unsafe it is to pull over just anywhere.

So next time pull over when you get the warning, instead of letting it shut down in the middle of the road!

I sure am glad I don't have to deal with the government "helping" me anymore. After 34 yrs I gave it up about 5 yrs ago. Best decision ever.

My little brother is a truck driver so I do know this. So drivers usually get 11 hours a day to drive with two 30 minute breaks. They are limited to the time and sometimes the truck will stop when the time hits. It didn’t get but I think she was worried about being the rules. Because of many drivers literally dying before the union was formed they take the rules seriously. I think they should have waking breaks more often but what do I know lol.

No the engine does not turn off some times I have drove my whole 11 hours with out taking a 30 minute break been like what happened you have to take a 30 minute break before 8 hours best to have 4 hours driven then you get all ya clock to run out that’s 11 hours of Driving with a 30 minute break per day 7 days a week when you have used up your 70 hours of driving you have to take 34 hours off if you only drive 8 hours a day you can run on recaps hours and all most never have to take a day off as long as you got recap hours

this does 100% happen to trains, which is why you see them stopped in random places.

this truck is connected to DOT logging automatically...if that truck is not at a complete stop when your 11th hr comes up it's a DOT violation...the company i worked for had a 4 violation limit for being fired

you only have to take a 30 minute every 8 hours not 2 in 11 . if you run out of time just miles from your home terminal you can legally use personal conveyance to get to a safe haven.
