Military personnel have faced court-martial for following manifestly unlawful orders, meaning an ordinary person would have known the order was illegal. A prominent example is the My Lai Massacre during the Vietnam War, where Lieutenant William Calley Jr. was convicted of murder for following orders to kill unarmed Vietnamese civilians. The principle is that "following orders" is no defense if the order clearly violates the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws, or international law, such as ordering the commission of atrocities, torture, or the murder of non-combatants.

I don't think an Admiral would make a critical error. However, Hegseth probably did issue orders to terminate survivors after a deadly attack. It is such a repulsive event that warrants accountability, and prosecution. Besides it is a violation of the Geneva Convention rules, and protocols.

I achieved the rank of TSgt and Captain all active duty time, if someone were even accused of the activities The SECDEF and The President were accused of Fraud, sexual abuse, sexual assault, crimes against minors, theft, their security clearances would be suspended. They would lose all rank and privileges. If found guilty they'd immediately be arrested and sent to military prison. The SECDEF and president do not exhibit the core beliefs of Integrity, service before self, pride, tenacity. Why should they lead the military if they can't exemplify the qualities that are demanded of every military member
