the family wanted to camp .. special needs kids love water and will disappear in a blink the kid is said to be a runner their minds don't operate like yours and mine . the dude is just trying to give his child a chance at the same type of family memories everyone deserves. all y'all see is some man with his kid on a leash I see a little boy with a father who is willing to try anything to make his kid happy and it worked I get being upset if it didn't have context but raising special needs kids sometimes looks different but it's the same end goal

Tying a child with a leash like a dog can, from a psychological standpoint, cause the child to become withdrawn and anxious in the future. This situation may program the child’s brain to think, “If I am not restricted by someone else, I might harm myself,” and can completely shut the child off from the outside world. And that’s not all—leashes are used on dogs, not on humans. A child who sees that the same treatment is given to dogs may start to think, “My dignity and pride do not matter. My purpose in the society I live in is simply to do whatever other people tell me. Because if I don’t, I will be excluded and I won’t survive.” As a result, the child may see themselves as inferior to others, define themselves as “pathetic, lowly, worthless,” and this can even lead to self-destructive thoughts or suicide later in life. A leash is meant for dogs, not for humans (unless they are criminals).

This is disgusting. Putting your child on a device that us used for dogs. All because you can not keep up with you child.

My Son is Autistic and when he was younger I got so much hell when he was wearing his little monkey safety backpack that had a (for lack of better terms) leash attachment. He was a "runner" and if we were out of the house in some circumstances he had to wear it. It was much better than him running in the middle of the street, getting lost, or hurting himself because he was unaware of risk and danger. Anyone who doesn't have a Special Needs Child or have been close to a Special Needs Child have no idea what we as Parents go through. My Son is my heart and I would never do anything that would cause him distress or harm. I protected him at all costs while being criticized and ridiculed by people who have no clue what it's like to be a Parent of a Special Needs Child. God bless their family and Im sure they had a great and SAFE time camping and spending time with each other.

most made comment without obviously reading the captions, he clearly stated his son had down syndrome, which means that the child's ability to thought process is much different than most people, it was nothing to do with parents no being able to keep up, then add the fact that children are spontaneous, I think this father used what ever tool available to the best of his ability, good job dad and to hell with everyone else.

Good Job Dad some people will never understand how hard it actually is with Down syndrome You are doing a great job 👏 dad You know more then anyone how important it is for him to be Safe and he can obviously be a runner just a second is all it takes Parents cannot always keep an eye on our babies it’s impossible Proud Dad accomplishment 🥰

as a parent you need to know your child. clearly they know the child will run off and get lost in the woods. so this is a solution.

as my mom got older it was hard for her to take care of the grandkids and one day she had a real super duper hyper as heck grandson that was always running to the neighbor's house where they have horses so my mom would just tie a rope around his waist and let him run all over the yard.

First and foremost, he's a cutie patootie 🥰. My favorite group of people that I've had the pleasure to work with is the mentality challenged or some call down syndrome. I taught independent living skills. It was my introduction to working with ppl with special needs and me being so young (mid twenties) at the time. It helped me define who I was and decide my career path. I'll be 70 years old this year... And if it weren't for medical reasons, I'd be working right now.
