My cat snuck out, went 10 feet, then realized there were no kibbles outside. Never happened again. Of course, he does weigh 28lbs

Once cats get a tasteof outside they will want to be out all the time. Please dont do that to him because there is danger outside.

cats can't cross streets safely, sure they get lucky sometimes but. They also deplete the bird population and eat diseased rodents. yuck

I had an indoor male cat, and one spring evening I had the bedroom window open to what I thought was a safe and steady screen. But somehow he knocked the screen out! I was awakened at 3 am to the most horrible meowing and screaming! He was outside, horrified, and wanted back in! He never tried to get out again!

Mine has escaped more than a few times, but she comes back after a day or two, meanwhile I'm worrying my head off... cause we have wild, big cats around here, not to mention many other dangerous wild animals.

we tried to make our new kitten an inside cat. But by two months old, he was crying at the patio door to go outside! so now we have a cat that eats and sleeps inside but goes out during the daylight hours!

my cat was feral and she lived outside hunting and fighting on her own and she came to the window and I let her in the house and she was the sweetest little cat and she moved in with me when the weather is nice I let her out she takes off sometimes for a week but she always comes back and she spends all the cold months in the house with me

That's one time where she was carried out. Let her explore out on her own, and she will gradually go for it.

my cat absolutely HATES the outside. we got him as a kitten, he was a stray and just walked up to me one early morning and I kept him ever since, I guess since he's been with me so long. I literally can not bring him to a open door because just even a car driving by scares the crap out of him, hes so sweet🥺

Thats funny, He wants no part of outside. My cat always tries to run out the door and when she gets out I got tired of chasing her now I shut the door and within 30 seconds she's meowing to come inside. lol. I love my cats and doggies. they are my babies.

I had an indoor cat while living in an apt over our families antique store in Old Town Alexandria, VA. I could go to work without going outside so my cat would come to work with me every day. I could leave the doors open on the store and she’d never go outside because there were 3 lanes of one-way traffic in front of the store across a wide sidewalk. One evening after work I went to a car club meeting for a couple of hours at a local restaurant and when I came back to the store and unlocked the door to go in I had an animal bum rush me running into the side of my leg and into the store so fast it startled the hell out of me not knowing what it was! Turns out my cat must have wandered out of the store when I was leaving and was outside for a couple of hours. She was all over me for hours. She never went outside again!

Always wait one month after you get your cat or move to a new place before letting them out. Also make sure they can easily get back in, 24/7, through easily accessible partly open window, cat door, partly open door with chain lock padlocked on and something wedged in opening so it won't blow shut. Don't let opening be any wider than needed for cat to get in so dog or mountain lion chasing cat can't get in. A woman in a rural setting about 30 miles from San Francisco left her back door partly open at night so her small dog could go in and out to pee. She woke to the dog sitting on her bed and barking loudly. A mountain lion came in the door, grabbed dog off her bed, and ran back out.

from my own experience, don't leave your small animals in the yard by themselves or with you..Eagles can swoop down and grab them right out of your arms, or dog packs will attack them and eat them 🤔

Indoor cats are curious about what is outside; especially if they like looking out the windows. However, once outside & discovering the outside, they get lost & then scared because they can’t find their way home. Put their litter box in the front yard; hopefully they can’t find smell their way back home. This does work, but don’t scoop out because the cat needs to smell their business in order to find home. My two indoor cats got out when my screen door wasn’t shutting properly; they were playing in front both door & it opened; both cats went outside slowly. I saw the door was opened & the cats on the stoop; I called them & they both came back into the house. I was lucky because the female can run very fast.
