Wow! Pole vaulting in reverse. I bet quite a few guys got injured before they mastered that technique. Who really wants to carry around a stick that heavy all the time just to save walking around a few cliffs anyway.
Actually if you accurately measure your mass, terminal velocity, theoretically you can design a pole long enough to jump off ANY height of building and land safely.

actually that technique was used for thousands of years jumping out of trees with a spear onto a game trail to impale your prey with a long smoothly sanded spear, you can take a piece of rawhide and put wet sand on it and use it to fashion wood to various shapes like sandpaper and make arrow shafts smooth and spear shafts smooth as pool cues
