possums are actually quite gentle they will not bite you they look scary but they're not they make excellent pets. possums do not carry the rabies virus you would really want to keep them in your yard because they eat ticks fleas snakes rodents. possums are very important in our environment people just don't understand them because they don't know the truth about possums

I actually am late to get out back and feed my 3 opossums their love for dry cat food. They love potatoes, grapes, apples, watermelon, and a lot of other fruits and vegetables. They were here first and then we took over their environment so I believe that someone’s got to at least try to keep them alive in my area. I do my best to try and befriend at least one and there is one who will stay on the landing of my porch until I’m done putting food on my deck when it’s raining outside so they can eat dry food and get out of the rain for a while.
I always loved opossums. My mom's best friend took in an entire litter after their mom was hit and killed near their farm. The babies were so freaking adorable. I also LOVE the commercial when the Dad and the brother and sister are in the backyard and they see an opossum laying completely still on the ground and the kids aren't sure if it's dead...and then they get close enough and it jumps up and takes off and the dad tells them it was just "playing possum"! CRACKS ME UP EVERYTIME I SEE IT! 😆
Hahaha I scared that kid….my porch now. They are docile and will show you their teeth when they are scared of you but if they are cornered with another animal then I would suggest you don’t get your hands in the middle of it just because they will defend themselves if necessary from another animal but they will play “possum” when they get really scared or you do try and touch them. They don’t carry rabies and they eat all the bad bugs like tick which is fantastic! They can take on a poisonous snake and kill it. All they are looking for is some kind of shelter, food, and water.
Gee’s calm down, he won’t hurt you. They actually are good animals that get rid of insects, ticks. They are not aggressive. Just walk past it & go in the house.

its a possum. they dont bother you. I have a momma at our house since 2013, she just comes and eats the ticks out of our yard,,drinks the fresh water I put out and the food i give her. we have a heated house as well outside for cold weather. she probably lives longer,,since our property is safe and has food.

They won't bite you. they are docile and afraid of humans. We don't tolerate them on the farm because they carry EPM which can transmit to horses. We raise horses.

We have possums around my yard. Last summer we were all outside just sitting in the yard, and something kept brushing up against my leg, not thinking because I was so tired after work, I yelled who let the cats out! Yep wasn't a cat and when I yelled he played Opossum and flopped over! It was so funny. My daughter named her Daisy. Now that the weather is breaking they will be coming out real soon 😂😂😂

That poor possum looks at that kid, and when he squeals, the possum says to himself, the more people I meet, the weirder I think they are! I love my possums. They are not out to hurt anyone. They only have that 50 tooth grimace because they're gentle creatures by nature and need that look to deter predators. IF their inner child showed, they would be farting rainbows with hearts fluttering out of their ears as they strolled around whistling to themselves. 🥰💕

Possums are dangerous and also use razor claws if the are done playing dead. Avoid it in the first seconds you meet one. The mother will use her young as bait.
