Don't take his apparent lack of empathy as less than. Back then, black children were not adopted as regularly as white children to white parents. The fact he remembers her 'markings' as something turned people away says a lot about his actual empathy. No one forced him to make the decision, and then go through the process. He CHOSE to because he WANTED to. Most people put in 'their order' for the perfect 'baby' when looking into adoption, he didn't. He may be gruff around the edges, but the fact she calls him 'dad' says a LOT. π₯°
Weβll Iβm a elderly black Female who once had a foster child. Her older siblings pumped her into stealing my things for them. I only had her. Heβs telling His Daughter ( Adopted Child) he wanted to help black kids. Iβm grateful to God he did. Itβs as he said it is in the world. People get paid πΈto foster kids. The majority do it for income because it pays well but never enough when you love them enough to adopt them . A lot of black foster kids were left behindβ¦ God bless him. At that time in the 1980βs. Blacks wasnβt fostering a lot. So they got left behind β¦π’
I was born into a family that DID NOT WANT ME. My life was nothing short of a nightmare. I would be eternally grateful for a soul like this to tell me he CHOSE me specifically. In a world that thrives on tainted love, it is a SIN to judge individuals who opt to take on a child to give them a better life. This is Gods way. Thank heavens that people like this exist in the world. At this junction in time, we need people like this now, more than ever. πβοΈππ½
why is this heartbreaking? look how old this gentleman is. he's saying what he felt in his heart he wanted to do something for the black community so rather than leaving a child in foster care he and his wife adopted not one but two foster children from Foster Care the parents happened to be Caucasian and they wanted to help the black community. why is that heartbreaking?
The adopted dad is from a time when black children were rarely adopted by anyone. The fact that he remembered her bruises clearly shows he has empathy for human life and he is making her aware he saved her from further abuse, harm, and neglect. β¨οΈβ¨οΈβ¨οΈβ¨οΈ
WOW
Your dad is a nice man... you are one of the lucky ones. Not everybody got adopted into loving homes.
you can tell he adopted those children because he cares and did want them to have a better life
Just to be out of foster care into a home by a loving family is good.
A beautiful blessed white man that spoke his truth and gave her and her brother a better life and that's what he wanted to do God bless himπ
He may not sound sweet & loving to most but he does to meβ¦gave me tears of joy and Iβm glad he gave she & Fred a stable homeπΈπ
buddy said nothing wrong. . actually he really said because I cared and I thought if I didn't you'd get left to someone who didn't care
He is a good man. To have adopted her and her brother. Their are some foster care parents who do not do or treat the child right. She was fortunate that a loving couple decided to adopt her and her brother.
he didn't want yous to be abused by foster families ,so he adopted you. He loved yous for that reason
This gruff old man used the word tummy when describing her marks says alot about how he really raised them. I bet they saw a softer side of him plenty while growing up...js
That man told her the truth, and there ainβt nothing wrong with the truth
What a wonderful man! One of my old neighbors did the same thing - their daughter grew up to be an attorney !
I'm a 76 yr. old white lady and I love this. My Mom and Dad wanted more children but Mom couldn't have them. I doubt they would have let a white family adopt a black child then but she always said it wouldn't matter to her or Dad, because love is blind, and color is only skin deep. She also was the 8th of 10 children and never remembered being told, "I love you, or you are pretty" , and if they could have adopted any child, she would want the most homely looking child there and spend the rest of her life telling them how pretty they were. no matter what color or sex
Let's just be clear. This now older woman would not be calling this man (Dad) if there wasn't mutual love there. She would be calling him Alan or Edgar of whatever his real name is and wouldn't be speaking so kindly to him or speaking to him at all seeing how she really doesn't need him in her life at her age. He gave her a much better life then being at a group home or bouncing between temporary families never knowing stability.
People think his response is heartbreaking π. But itβs notβ¦β¦..what he really said is that, because of those βtummyβ marks you would have left without a familyβ£οΈ Ge didnβt want that for themβ£οΈSometimes people are not so great at expressing themselves. In fact heβs saying βI loved you too much to leave youββ£οΈβ£οΈβ£οΈβ£οΈβ£οΈ
A person that age made their point through actions and not words. He knew the positivity of such. Point blank. The woman knows he loved her no matter what.
Well foster people are still paid and most do it for the money which is disgusting! I'm glad you were adopted because you were wanted! β€οΈ
Old white dudes just talk like that. They grew up in the "showing emotions are bad" era. Saying "we wanted to do something for black people" is the white boomer equivalent of "black children in foster care are marginalized even moreso than they would be, and we wanted to lend our lives and love to help our Black brothers and sisters have a better shot at life than foster care could ever give them." It's like asking your parents to sign a birthday card. Mom will write a paragraph, dad will write "- dad" π
How can people call this man any bad words? He adopted them because he wanted to. At the end of the day it wasnβt Iβm sure about the money. Taking them to school helping them with everyday life things. Nobody is asking why did the kids really family not take them in. Why did they go to foster care in the first place. This man is of age and heβs done something good as human.
Now that's empathy. God bless you sir. ππΎ
He loves them. Why you upset. Count your lucky stars π
she asked and he told her truthfully. I call that loveπ
I didnβt think he meant any hurtful or harmful.
Well, White folks don't really know who to show compassion but, because he actually adopted both of them says alot abt his compassion. That's what all children want in foster care is to adopted by a family. God bless his soulπ
He saw a problem, especially with innocent minority children and instead of talking? stepped up and did something about it
she seems to have turned out alright. the man was trying to do something good for 2 babies. he's just not good at articulating his love.
Honestly I think he meant well and his deliverance was a little off. He old and to adopt not one but two kids is commendable. Sometimes we as people look at racism and have our own opinions and views that each time the opposite color says the slightest thing that we don't agree with we just automatically say its racist. But we all know when you talking with the elders sometimes they just say what there thinking without looking at how it may be received from an outsider looking in.
What gets me is when ppl get mad about HONEST answers. Right or wrong, that's his truth. U asked, he answered.
Looks like he has COPD and is a little emotional about the conversation with his daughter.π₯°
The gentleman could have not been more sincere he adopted them cause he wanted to do something good for Black people maybe he didnβt phrase it too well kind of funny and shocking to her of course but he did a great thing. He gave him a good life and most important heβs down to earth and his truthful. It is what it is and Iβm sending him a big hug. Adopt me Papi Shazam.π
Honesty idc that fact he is honest thank u white man
Is she trying to point him in a negative light? They wanted to adopt babies to have in their family. His point was you werenβt perfect and he knew people wouldnβt choose you but he did. He wanted the unwanted ones amongst the unwanted ones. I think some gratitude is in order.
well I was adopted 78 years ago by monsters. a whole family of them couldn't wait to tell everybody we met wherever we went that I was adopted red hair freckles hazel eyes and they're all blonde haired blue-eyed, so I don't think whether you're in foster care or adopted that there's anything out there other than a crapshoot where we will end up
For those of you who choose to judge and assume before actually thinking first. His generation was different. Men were taught that feeling and showing softness was a bad thing. It was literally considered sissy and weak. Likewise, he came from the true a man's word and firm handshake was everything. His honesty was Blount. But honest just the same. But his behaviors spoke volumes to the love and big heart he has. Remember, actions speak much louder than words.π€ππππππ₯°π₯°π₯°
Did she have a good life with him then she should shut up
He adopted two children that weren't getting adopted. I wonder what he meant about marks on her belly and neck. π€He mentioned that foster families would adopted but only cared about the money, not the children. It sounds like he saved two lives from being in horrible situations. The way he speaks does not change the love in his heart.
Obviously cared about you he definitely loved you! His heart is in the right place. Forgive his words as he is an elder now. Show respect π«‘ this man loves you.
He adopted her and she instantly had a home. He said nothing wrong and told the truth with his words and deeds .
Even though his honesty was painful to hear...it seems he has an empathetic heart, and his motives were precious.
thank π you and your wife ππ₯°π
He point blank said To give HER A BETTER LIFE THEN SHE WOULDA HAD... π back then foster/orphanage it was hard for children of color to be placed .. They did Right for both the children they adopted , there is nothing wrong with what he said he was being honest , she grew up in tht house with him so she most likely knew what kinda response she may get also .. π₯° either way lovey family π
You have to respect his honesty and obviously he love her and her brother. She sounds like sheβs educated and was well taken care of by her dad. Girl love your dad bcz he def love you.β€οΈπ€π
He apparently raised them with care. He was being honest about them doing more than most would have done.
I'll take honesty over a lie any day he was honest and to the pointπ₯°π₯°π₯°π₯°
Wow Iβm sorry. π’ Iβm adopted too π
He has emphysema or another condition that causes shortness of breath. He and his wife wanted to adopt 2 black children because of their condition and he says they figured that they would not have been adopted out of the system. She sounds unappreciative, she seems to be critical. Case in point, rather than being thankful.
Well heβs kinda a jerk imo
God bless you sir for choosing to adopt instead of foster. ππΌπΊπΈ
This man may not have articulated this the best way, but he had a good heart and apparently gave her and Fred a real home and love and caring. So quit looking for negative things.
Wow. Loss of words.
ππ½πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
I'm also adopted and it's so heartwarming to me that he wanted her because of her imperfections not despite them. He saw a child that he thought would never get adopted and gave her a decent life.
Back then a white family adopting a black child (not fostering for $) to raise and love as their own, didnβt sit well with many in those times, most preferred their own kind. Bless this man and his family for not looking at skin color or judgement from others but for a child who was abandoned/abused and wanted to provide a home of stability, protection and love.
So Adoption was done in Hopes of giving You a Better Life and Not out of Love?? Somehow I Think it was out of Love but he wonβt Admit That π even after all these years I Hope you were Shown Love by Your Mom
He seems honest and sincere Sounds like he caredπΈπ
I think this is his way of saying I love you. I care about you. He just canβt put those words out there. Some people donβt say I love you, but they sure do show you. He stepped up and stepped in.
U needed a family. K. U got one. He didn't put you down for adoption he put you up. Thank you and pay it forWARD HEFFA!!
it seems the poster wanted a different outcome in the comments and got educated fast lol. dude has a big heart whether he shows it or not
Is she a simple minded to not realize that he seems like a pretty nice man and he adopted you because he wanted to. You sound like an ungrateful young lady
gotta love truth! good man..no bs..no hesitation..sometimes..just ask before talking chit.π³
wonderful human beings..we need more of them on this planet
He's part of the original problem. Stay w ur own people!!!!! Don't mix
