My concern is how they grow them: fertilizer and others that would make it that color and whatever else. I always loved pineapple. Growing in the tropics with a full day sun, fruits tend to have sharp colors. Covered pineapples should have a paler color because of the defused sun. To be fair, perhaps the pineapple the farmers are showing, could be a different variety. Also keep in mind that pineapples are NOT susceptible to bugs or insects, therefore covering them is unnecessary. Do your research.

In the summer of 1976, I picked pineapple's on the island of LANAI HAWAII. We had 2nd shift. 12 noon to 12 a.m. I was 17 years old! I was there for 3 months, making $1.75 an hour! I thought I was rich!!! The organization that was heading up the program was YOUTH DEVELOPMENTAL ENTERPRISES. When I see the covering on each pineapple, my back aches !! That covering, adds so much more work for the pickers! Now I'm 66 years old. I have worked in many industries, and in many situations! The highlight of my work life, EVEN THOUGH IT was the hardest physical work I've done, had to be away from family and friends,.....FOR 3 MONTHS...... I DID IT FOR THE EXPERIENCE.... I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE ...... who actually did that also. No one has any idea how hard of work, picking pineapple was,....or mabey STILL IS!!!
