If one of those kids got knocked down by a wave, who is big enough to help? Babysitting in a home is different from the beach.

When I was 10 I was being paid to babysit neighbors kids, including babies.
These children were left on the beach, close to the ocean….. with only a 10 year old to babysit 5 children by the ocean!!??!!? Nuts!!
If the truth was known, the 10 year old probably acted as Mom in Iowa.
This wasn’t a black family, is all I’m saying.
Anything could have happened. That's no kind of mother.
Both of my sons could swim like a goldfish but there's no way I would ever take him to the ocean or any open water unsupervised! The ocean or the beach doesn't behave like a swimming pool does and it creates its own set of rules that is not forgiving for children.
These kids could have gotten caught up in a rip tide and carried out to sea.
I think she was very disappointed and annoyed with the interruption of their disappearing and the fact that before they were not going to make it to the land that the police department were requested to be of assistance to the children and find the responsible person who is in their mother and their swift and speedy time of observation and remediation to the lifesaving of the childreñ

Our older siblings watched us. Big deal. Now you can't let a kid 5 ft from you or someone calls the cops. At 5 we were told to be home at supper time. We are all alive no problems.. Everything today is overkill.

I was walking the neighborhood kids home from school when I was 10 there were 15 kids all boys. at 14 when I got home from school I cooked dinner, help my little brother with homework get him to take a shower and into bed then washed the dishes, cleaned the house did laundry and then get my home work done. my mom worked 2nd shift. I got myself up made coffee took a shower my mom would get my brother up I walked him to school because his school was my bus stop. I started cooking at 3 even made a full meal meatloaf, boiled potatoes(instead of mashed) gravy green beans and bread and butter.
its because when i was young 10,11,12 years old we were taught to be responible for whom we were in charge of, some of us that baby sat were getting paid and needed that money for extra things we needed or wanted. now a days the kids are taught to steel from or just out right rob peoples homes. I BLAME THAT ON THE WORTHLESS PARENTS.

Camping, swimming & beaching should NOT be considered normal babysitting for any human at 10 years let alone 5 kids, on vacation- this mom from Iowa needs some help poor lady must be sleep deprived to think this was a good idea.
I'm so glad nothing happened to those kids, but I wouldn't have felt a bit bad for MOM if she had lost (Heaven forbid) one or her children during her absence. She deserves to lose CUSTODY of all of her kids.

I was surfing in the Atlantic Ocean all by myself self at their age on a private beach no life guards now other people.
My cousins and I would be on the beach for hours! Ages 8 to 12. The 60's and Oregon beaches. We looked out for each other.
Found their Beach set up and stayed with them

We went on vacation to Florida in 1971 when I was ten and I went down to the resorts beach and sun bathed all by myself self for hours. Also my big brother and big sister came down and we walked all the way out on a jetty In the ocean. It was different days.
