It's because America is in high demand for labor and service jobs...Many people have degrees and jobs that require those are currently not in high demand...It's simple... For generations... People worked hard up to gen X. Gen Z saw this and was like..I don't wanna work that hard..So a generation or two went to college and got degrees...To the point where ....Many now have student loans and college dept.. However.. Can't find good paying jobs in those lines of work....
