You pay taxes on your land because it's not yours and can be taken from you! Those "taxes" are actually you paying rent to have your house on the land.

The mineral rights are not owned by the government, unless the land is federal land. It is owned by the person who owned the mineral rights before anyone signed a contract that limited the mineral rights. You can purchase property from individuals whose family has owned it for a long time but most developers who purchase land and develop houses on the properties retain the mineral rights to the land under the homes and land they sell. Still, if you buy a home on land, you should own the land and anything under it.

This is accurate. We do not own above & below unless the property deed specifically states that the owner owns the air & mineral rights. He should have read his deed. The government will buy his property if they want to build an extraction operation. If he's pumping crude & selling it, it's theft. He's obviously ignorant about deeds, air & mineral rights.

Let鈥檚 be honest. They made it so we own nothing. Who is going to ask for MINERAL RIGHTS at the closing of their new home?? WE ARE. From now on. IMO they set these truly evil accountant practices just for theft of property. Do THEY get to keep everything and not pay taxes?? Absolutely. Time for us to push back. Let him keep the money and help his city or state. Build a better homeless community. Oligarchs are just going to become bigger trillionaires. We MUST push back otherwise our grandchildren stand a chance of being marked without permission. No red. No blue. United. WE built this country. 馃嚭馃嚫

US government is straight trash! you never own anything here, ever! I remember watching the news some years back in this 90 some year old woman lost her house because she couldn't pay the taxes. they put her stuff out to the curb after she had been in for 60 some years. The neighbors got the money up and bought the house and gave it back to her, that's ridiculous!

Correct! But if he relaxes a bit he'll probably get a big payday for drilling rights. If he keeps acting like a loon, they'll give somebody else the payday and just extract the oil from a neighbors land.

Yeah if it鈥檚 his own backyard an you live in a subdivision you got a big problem. Cause how many people can access that oil from their property? Now if out in the country no one would find out and you could get your mineral rights before everyone in the world found out you had oil and have neighbors call the police cause you have oil coming up in your backyard m.
