As a disabled veteran myself i find this statement offensive. I never served at the pleasure of the president. To serve at someones pleasure. Let that sink in. This president believes that our military serves at his pleasure. I served this country, not at some leaders pleasure. I took an oath to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States of America against all enemies both foreign and domestic. I took great pride in taking that oath and serving my country. Its disgusting to have that minimized and demeaned, that we serve someones pleasure. How egotistical!!

Hegseth did answer. Basically he said: "They answer to the pleasure of the King, and so do I." I would have continued the questioning by asking Hegseth who he and they serve: the president or the Constitution, to which they took an oath, as did the president.
