I think the difference here is that Trump. On day one gave a blanket pardon to 1500 January sixers, some of which had criminal records and some of which have committed crimes since. He has since admitted giving pardons to criminals he doesn't even know and they're crimes have been egregious. So far, Trump has placed blame all the way back to Nixon.
