When you grow up broke and you constantly see other people flashing money, cars, and opportunities you’ll never have access to, it does something to you. It creates this pressure, this feeling that the only way to get ahead is through the lanes that are actually open to you. That’s why so many poor people end up in the streets. It’s not because they’re trying to be tough or reckless. It’s because they’re watching everyone else live a life they can’t even touch, and the only path that seems to offer the same kind of money is the illegal one. When every legal door is locked, the illegal ones start looking like the only way out. Nobody’s saying it’s right. But pretending it’s just “bad decisions” ignores the reality that poverty doesn’t just limit income, it limits hope, options, and the belief that you can win any other way.
