The principle of automatically granting citizenship to anyone born within a country's borders, known as jus soli (right of the soil), is not universally adopted. Many countries, particularly in Europe, Asia, and Africa, base citizenship primarily on jus sanguinis (right of blood), meaning a child's nationality is determined by their parents' citizenship, regardless of birthplace. Some countries do not have birthright citizenship at all, meaning a child born within their borders does not automatically acquire citizenship. These include: Albania Bulgaria China Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Hungary Iceland Latvia Lithuania Montenegro North Macedonia Norway Poland Romania Russia Slovakia Slovenia Turkey
