A good article. Let's face facts. If Americans across party lines favor social security, it is time to stand up for it just as it is. Without reinventing the wheel. I appreciate the dependability of payments. No other method can match 90 years of prompt, on time payments. That is it's strong points. No amount of gambling in the stock market can deliver good performance. No need to privatize it because most workers have a 401K. In loss times, they only lose on paper but their check is not affected but is nothing to depend on in retirement. All is needed is a boost of income to help it out. Eliminate the cap on income subject to FICA Taxes. There is no cap on income subject to Medicare tax. They pay it all. The world did not end. This will solve the shortfall but just to be sure, place a tax on fossel fuels we sell overseas and put that into the social security trust funds.
