I had no idea that barracuda would attack people! Can they bite? I’m heading to Port Saint Lucie in Florida to visit my sister for her 60th Birthday & I’m a little nervous to going swimming in the ocean because of the recent reports on sharks! Do I now have to be concerned with barracuda too?!!🤔

i jumped in a lake as a teen. my foot began to feel funny. raised my foot for my cousin to look at. i had slit my foot on something sharp from my toe down, bled like crazy. that was a quick ending of a summer outing. haven't gone in any water since, where i cant see the bottom of.

We were swinging on a rope in a blue hole, for those that don’t know, it’s an old mining pit, pretty blue water clear, & very deep. I was 3 people waiting on my turn, when a boy swung out and dove in head first, came up with a face full of cotton mouths mating! He didn’t make it. I always think abt that every year when it’s swimming weather!

the key is even if you're you're a good swimmer you want to get some really good things and hopefully you'll practice using it before you get to the beach or do any swimming in the ocean. swim fins alone can save your life and the lives of other people. never go in Open water anywhere without your fins and if you need to have a flotation device trailing behind you as you swim so if you get tired you have fins and a flotation device to be able to get you back to the beach safely or to stay afloat until someone comes to get you. and some people would just dismiss the fins when they go for a swim but if you don't know the area and like I said any Open water area you should wear your fins at any age.

I waded into the ocean early in the morning, about up to mid thigh. it was glorious! There were a lot of fish jumping out of the water around me. I also felt things bumping into my legs. Didn't think too much about it. When I told someone who lived by the ocean, they looked at me like I had grown a second head. They told me that the reason the fish were jumping was to get away from bigger fish that were in feeding mode. Those bigger fish were what was hitting my legs. Needless to say, I didn't do that again.

In Florida a girl was swimming in a spring and she swam straight into an Alligator’s mouth. It still gives me shivers after 25 -30 years..

Ignorance is bliss! When I was in my 20s I surfed in Hawaii at dusk having no clue that’s when sharks hunt and eat. I didn’t know. I even cut my foot on coral and still surfed until the sun went down. I’m much older and wiser now and having more info about sharks..: u wouldn’t catch me EVER doing that again! YIKES!! 😳

I was swimming in the Caribbean we went to Buck Island in the Virgin Islands when I was 15 I'm 68 now so that should tell you how long ago. I didn't want to put the snorkels in my mouth cuz I was you know other people had them in their mouths and I was freaking so I just went swimming and I heard someone taller stingray so I'm still swimming alone and under me is this huge stingray just a swimming along I put the brakes on and went back to that boat. then a dove off the boat to get a conch shell pulled it up and I knew it was an octopus in it hiding from me couldn't get them out he got out and he changed orange to yellow like a egg yolk my mother said and went sliding off the boat so I can say I call the octopus💕

Was swimming down in V.B. Virginia about 30-40 yards off beach. Myself and a younger dude were seeing how far we could go before getting whistled in. We ignored her and kept going. Just then I felt a large object skim my thigh. I screamed like hell scaring the kid next to me. He started screaming in terror which in turn caused me to start screaming again and so on and so on. We finally realized whatever it was, was gone. We started back trying to stay up while laughing hysterically. Not that easy swimming when you can’t quit laughing. When we got to shore lifeguard was waiting to bitch us out along with my wife and daughter and his family and girlfriend. After we told them our story, the mom said we couldn’t hang out anymore. Seriously ! I hope she was joking, although I never saw him again.

I lived on the Cape when they filmed Jaws and didn't give a rat's ass and didn't go see rubber fishes either! No regrets and swam for years in that gorgeous ocean without so much as seeing a fin! 😆🥰🙏🥰🙏🥰💕😆👍

Looks like a barracuda. They can do some serious damage with their teeth! He may have been wearing a piece of jewelry that glinted in the sunlight when he hit the water & attracted it. I’ve always heard to take off all jewelry when swimming in the ocean because barracuda are attracted to shiny objects.
