Hammocks exert an unexpected amount of pulling force and need to be tied off to something really strong because of it...They are notorious for collapsing weak support structures.Sitting in a hammock can exert enough force to bring down very large objects that you would think could "hold the weight."It's not the hanging weight itself but the lateral forces exerted by that weight which is so dangerous. I always sit in a hammock slowly the first time to make sure the suspension is strung correctly and try not to hang over anything that will injure me if I have a suspension failure...Be really careful getting in and out of a hammock. That's where most hammock related injuries occur Hammocks can be big fun but can also be deadly if not strung properly...My sincerest condolences to the parents and loved ones of this little girl.This is an awful tragedy...

No... the best way to use a hammock... is a freestanding hammock or hammock on a stand. Please be sure there aren't any objects beneath the hammock! I never trust the hammock hanging on a tree...
I barely let my kids play in the swing that’s tied to my fig tree let alone put a fucking hammock up with some half ass Jenkee shit those parents will never forget the day they lost their two daughters because of their lack of judgment. It really sucks as it is our obligation and responsibility to think ahead of any potential dangers that could hurt our children.

My friend and his girl were laying in a hammock in the backyard. The tree made a little sound and fell on top of them. Thankfully they weren’t killed, but my friend lost his eye & it was a long process. Rest in peace sisters 🙏🏻❤️

Years ago in Edmond Oklahoma, an environmentalist lawyer was crushed and killed by a dead tree in his backyard after he got on a hammock that he had anchored to the dead tree. Most people do not realize that the first thing that runs on a dead tree, or the roots in the ground. They rot because of the moisture, insect and fungi decomposers that live in the ground. Only attach a hammock to live trees that are well established.

In June, I was helping a friend move and went to rest on the hammock in the yard . I ended up falling about five feet when the sun baked fabric ripped at the seams. I fell dead center ony back onto some four inch right curbing. I was super lucky it only knocked the wind out of me and aggrivated my already painful herniated disks.

this is terrible.its worth noting that if you live in a state with a lot of surface water like in the south eastern states, trees develop shallow root balls that may not tolerate weight from a hammock.
