Democrats literally want people to starve. Democrats want the military to not get paid. Democrats are making air travel less safe by not paying our air traffic controllers. Section 8 housing people are next in line to run into trouble. Forcing the President to release such funds during a shutdown, with no CR passed by Congress is unprecedented. This is overreach by the Judicial branch. The Supreme Court had to step in and fix this.

About 41.7 million people (~12% of the U.S.) rely on it monthly, mostly families with children (62%), older adults, or people with disabilities (37%), and working households (28% overall; 55% with children). Applicants must provide birth certificates, Social Security numbers, and proof of income. Undocumented immigrants are not eligible, and foster homes follow the same rules. Able-bodied adults without dependents face a 3-month limit unless working or in training. Myths claiming “illegal immigrants are draining the system” are false. Even prisoners get 3 meals a day, yet millions of Americans go hungry. If we can fund billionaires and unapproved handouts to Israel and Argentina, we can feed our own citizens. Lies about SNAP distract from real hunger and poverty.

A motion to advance a bill to pay excepted employees and members of the military — or those who have to work unpaid during the funding impasse — failed 53-47 Friday evening. It needed 60 votes to advance.
