Democrats are holding out to secure the extension of enhanced subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, set to expire at the end of 2025, which would cause significant premium increases for millions of Americans. Democrats are also resisting deep spending cuts to health and social programs proposed by the Republican-controlled Congress that would affect Medicare and Medicaid and threaten the closure of hospitals and nursing homes. There is nothing on the table about illegal immigrants.
