In 1957 President Eisenhower invoked the Insurrection Act to send the 101st Airborne to Little Rock to enforce federal law that Arkansas Governor Orville Faubus was defying. In the early 1960s President Kennedy invoked it twice to send troops to Mississippi and Alabama when the governors of those states defied federal law. President Trump will probably also invoke the Insurrection Act and send troops to sanctuary states and cities to enforce federal immigration law where it is being defied and resisted. No judge can overrule a president acting under the authority of the Insurrection Act.
