What a bunch of BS! Americans mostly shop based on prices and if they are shopping based on taste they buy that tomorrow, but most Americans don’t seek out tomatoes because they are grown in Mexico. I buy tomatoes all the time and don’t know even have a clue where they came from. I can tell you a difference! Tomatoes grown in America have stricter regulations and controls to insure they are much less contaminated than produce coming from any other country

I’m calling out the lies as the commentator says Mexican tomatoes are ripened on the vine. Yet they show flats and totes of green tomatoes. Another validation of the lie is from a logistics perspective, ripened tomatoes would spoil before making it to the distribution points. Even if refrigerated trailers were on constant cooling cycles.

We produce quite a bit of the World's tomato paste. I worked nine seasons at paste plants in the Northern Sacramento Valley. Our products are shipped around the Nation, to other food processors, to make enchilada sauce, pizza sauce, spaghetti sauce.... Best in the World..These tomatoes have been specially bred to ensure quality. In little ways! Our Roma type tomatoes were bred to be rectangular in shape! Why? So they would avoid rolling in the tubs during transport. These fruit are high in sugar, Bostick, pectin, and are processed in such a way, that only paper thin, dry, peel remains after processing. All the liquids have been taken out of those peels ( the properties of these liquids improve the paste). So much care

Tomatoes are also yummy when grown in Connecticut
But we have had a lot of rain so some are rotting before they get ripe
They also grow a lot of small cherry and grape tomatoes in greenhouses in Canada
I know we see them shipped into New England and the grape ones are TASTELESS!!

Fake news propaganda. Sorry to break it to you but Mexican tomatoes aren't picked at the peak of ripeness. Picking and running through the distribution network, they would be rotten before they got to you. They aren't ripened by gas. They naturally ripen, and controlling CO2 and ethylene gas can slow it. Once a tomato begins to turn red, the vines purpose is done, and the tomatoes flavor does not change if picked earlier anyway

I have a friend that grows tomatoes locally on a large farm and he was asked to go to Mexico to educate growers about growing tomatoes. He told me that the use of illegal insecticides was commonplace and the fertilizers used included human waste. He highly recommended that I never eat Mexican tomatoes.

The Trump crowd insists that everyone should just grow their own tomatoes, or that the U.S. can easily supply all the tomatoes we need, so apparently, this shouldn’t be a problem. And even if we continue importing tomatoes from Mexico, according to these same people and their infallible leader, Mexico will just cut a check to the U.S. Treasury anyway to pay the tariffs… so hey, we’re all set, right?
