im from the school of thought that if you'd steal a dollar bill, then you'd steal a 100 dollar bill. if your first instinct when you get into someone else's car is to look around to see what's in there, see gum and take some, then if there was anything else worth taking they'd prob take that too. either you're honest or you're not. either you'd take something that isn't yours or you wouldn't. It's not about a piece of gum. it's the violation of trust.

I left my car at a shop for a few days. When I got my car back I noticed someone had smoked in my car and they put their cigarette out in my ashtray. Not only did I not smoke, I had a barrette in the ashtray that was the same barrette that I had in my daughters hair when I buried her. They had put the cigarette out on the barrette and ruined it.

I have a car detail shop. I swear people leave expensive things in their vehicles to see what we will do.
We have found tablets, laptops, handguns, an engagement ring, $500 in cash, lots of gift cards. We bag every penny we find and give back to the customer.
I think they hide things in their vehicles to see if we clean in the super hard parts to reach.
I love to see their faces when they pick up their sparkling clean rig and find some extra items they weren’t expecting.
