when my grandfather who worked for Public Works Dept., passed away unexpectedly, he had six children of school age. Each of those kids received an SSI check until they turned eighteen years old. These are survivor benefits for dependants of a deceased adult working parent.

my husband died, unexpectedly, at age 46, in 2019, when our daughter was 13yrs old. I received nothing for her, for her dad's passing. He'd been on disability for spinal issues, for about 10yrs, up til he died. When he died, is when I discovered how mean, how cruel people are, to widows & their kids, when trying to navigate all that happens & needs doing, upon & in the aftermath of the death of a spouse/parent. I'll never forget the meanness of workers I had to speak to, at social security, & other gov agencies/offices. And we never received any social security payments for my daughter.

My father died when I was 12 years old ( I'm 67 now ) and my moms went to work to pay off our house that my dad brought but he didn't have life insurance so my mother had to go out to work for CBS BROADCASTING STATION IN NYC ! TO PAY OUR HOUSE OFF !

In addition, although we are not upper middle class, probably at the upper end of poverty. My younger neighbors have three children they homeschool and an infant. I try to help them whenever I can. Their hard working people and are taking responsibility for their children's education. My kids are all grown and away. So it's nice have young people around. They help me the old fella and my wife. Pizza parties and cook outs. We all need to work together in these times we are delt with.
