Anyone who believes this video proves you only get your news from clips. Yes, there was a story called “Racist Trees”. It was a part of the Independent Lens series where American filmmakers can submit their stories. It was about Palm Springs, CA and how tamarisk trees planted around a certain neighborhood were placed there to separate the community from a golf course and wealthy neighborhood back in the 60’s. According to the citizens alive back then, they had protests and town halls about the barriers and how the developers ignored the neighborhood concerns. Whether or not it was based on race, I can not say, but there is always more to the story than what politicians tell you.

NPR is needed to give many different views on all sides to educate people and create informed public. Without these type of informative broadcasts, you develop propaganda broadcasts like FOX and Truth Social.

It seems like everything that is good Trump and his minions are out to destroy. This man is trying to make it seem as if PBS has some evil motive and wants to push some horrible ideas on kids. Which isnt true. If there was a segment on racism and trees it would have been used to teach kids that racism is bad . By using trees they are not putting it in kids heads that one race of people is against another. I think the idea to use trees is brilliant. If a child knows nothing about racism there is no reason to fill their heads about people being racist while at the same time teaching one thing shouldnt be against the other. The idea is no different than using a stork to announce a baby being born.

Are they talking about botanical sexism where we only planted male trees in urban areas that give pollen and not female trees that have fruit and can be messier however without the female trees there is nothing to collect the pollen. And that is why we have so much pollen.

Per PBS.ORG, the segment refers to a historically black neighborhood in Palm Springs, CA, fighting to remove a wall of Tamarisk trees. The trees form a barrier believed by some to segregate the community as some residents regard them as an enduring symbol of racism. No, I did not watch the episode. There is also an article from 2017 (Reno Gazette Journal) saying they would be removed.
