I think that's a great thing I think any man or woman that is paying child support to the spouse that they divorced should be able to claim that child on their taxes as a dependent because they're giving child support to support the child

Wrong. The new law is giving a separate tax credit to the parent paying child support. Child support is NOT free money to the custodial parent. It is a REIMBURSEMENT of money already spent on the child. The custodial parent still claims the child on their taxes and also gets a tax credit. Child support is a means to support your child, not a means to abuse your ex. Some of you need to seriously educate yourselves.
This is dumb. Both parents are required to support their children, and the person who has most of the custody gets the payment from the other. In a 50/50 split, normally no one gets a check, they just both contribute. The courts sort out how to make this fair - not Donald
You know I’m a mom that pays child support. Nobody hears our stories. I was abused by my ex-husband and ended up in a battered women’s shelter. Just end up having to hand him over my child. I have been paying Child Support for over 12 years nobody cares about the mom’s to pay child support. It’s always over the poor dad’s well you know us moms are struggling too.
This absolutely NOT true. I've been getting calls about this and it's false. According to IRS rules, the party that pays more than 51% of the child's cost, gets the deduction. However, most parents come to an agreement to alternate the dependency allowance.

How about that one gal who has 8 kids from 8 different guys and they all pay child support plus she gets social benefits, she doesn't EARN a dime but lives like a queen, since she doesn't pay in anything to taxes she can't claim the kids so the deduction goes to their dads.

Most folk paying child support pay little to the upkeep of the child. Give the child to the non custodial parent and let them see how far child support actually goes to the upkeep.

I’ve been doing taxes for 27 years and I can tell you that this is fake news.
Rumors that the Trump administration passed a law preventing parents who receive child support from claiming their children on taxes are false; the person who started the main rumor on TikTok later admitted it was "made up". Federal law still determines child dependency claims primarily based on where the child lives (custody), not who pays child support, though a court order can stipulate otherwise using a specific IRS form.

I think they need to pass the law that says if you decide to make the court determine who gets custody then it should be automatically defaulted to whoever makes the most money since that's what they think child support really is. in the absence of provable danger to the child the default setting should be the parent who earns the most and the other parent does not pay child support as long as they continue spending time with and making a positive contribution to the child's life.
totally unfair how does one person pay 76$ and the other 3 k a month by the time the child is 18 they would have gotten totally different amounts there should be a flat rate per child to make fair among all

this is true if the child support payer has custodial rights of the child, if they on child support, and other parent has full custodial rights the custodial parent still gets to claim their child. child support in most cases covers 1/3 of child's needs and unexpected emergencies. there some people who take advantage of the money given to the child support reliever and that sucks

That's a lie... I worked in child support you have some people paying $65.00 per month for child support. So that person is paying less than $800 per year for child support as opposed to the custodial parent paying thousands per year to support the child. Secondly what House Bill was proposed to change the tax code..Who introduced that bill what congress person? The answer nobody because on it's face it's stupid and makes no sense. And finally Donald Trump does not give a fuck about anything that does not benefit him.
